Turface Athletics™ Sponsors Major League Baseball Field Maintenance Clinic in the Dominican Republic
BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. – (May 20, 2010) ─ Turface Athletics™ was a proud sponsor of the Brickman Major League Baseball (MLB) Field Maintenance Clinic which took place in the Dominican Republic in March of 2010. The event, led by Murray Cook of the Brickman Group, was held at the Pittsburgh Pirates training facility near Boca Chica. Approximately 50 turf managers representing 20 different MLB clubs, as well as turf managers from the Winter League stadiums attended the free event.
During the clinic, turf managers and groundskeepers learned about maintenance techniques and shared best practices with other local field managers. Josh Marden, Brickman’s sports turf operations manager from Durham Athletic Park, assisted by sharing his skills and knowledge to the group, and Joel Arroyo from the MLB International Operations office helped with logistics. Cook performed the mound maintenance section and led a general discussion regarding infield maintenance practices.
"Josh and Joel did a great job, and it’s exciting working with people that are so passionate about taking care of professional baseball fields," said Cook. "MLB is developing the game around the world, and both Brickman and Turface Athletics share the mission of helping to keep fields safe and playable. Turface is a natural clinic partner that helps us demonstrate better ways to take care of baseball fields."
Clinic organizers educated the group about the importance of field safety and gave hands-on education and supplies to managers who typically may not receive this type of assistance. The roles these managers play are very important to their communities as they create safer fields and reduce player injuries.
"We were proud to sponsor the Brickman Field Maintenance Clinic in the Dominican Republic," said Jeff Langner, brand manager, Turface Athletics. "Murray Cook and Brickman provide a very valuable service to the international sports field community. We were happy to contribute and are excited to assist with future events."
