How to Track Your Field Maintenance
There is no one correct way to log and track the work you do on your field. The goal is to keep detailed records so you can better understand your results, make adjustments based on experience, and specifically customize your practices to your field's requirements. Brandon Koehnke, Head Groundskeeper for the Cleveland Indians, recommends you follow these tips to develop better timing and fine tune your program:
- Good timing results in maximum performance of staff, equipment and the field.
- A calendar should track daily jobs, attendance, injuries, performance and field usage.
- Good staff records are never disputable.
- Make a restricted use pesticide form.
- Keep equipment logs for each piece of equipment
- Replace defective equipment immediately and log this work.
- Monthly soil analysis will provide a baseline and ongoing guide to monitor your inputs.
- Record fertilizer and pesticide applications. Include timing, analysis, weather, etc.
